- The Isle of Raasay is a island between the Isle of Skye and mainland Scotland.
- It is famous for being the birthplace of the Gaelic poet Sorley MacLean, an important figure in the Scottish Renaissance.
- The island has a population of 161.
- Raasay means "Isle of Roe Deer" and is home to an endemic subspecies of bank vole.
- Traditionally Raasay was the home of the clan MacSween.
- The island was ruled by the MacLeods from the 15th to the 19th century.
- Raasay House, which was visited by James Boswell and Samuel Johnson in 1773,is now a bar and restaurant.
- The Island has its own whisky and gin distillery.
- If you are visiting Skye you can take the short hop on the car ferry to Raasay.
- Well worth a visit.
