- Whitby is a seaside town, port and civil parish in North Yorkshire.
- It has a maritime, mineral and tourist economy.
- Whitby was where Captain Cook learned his trade as a seaman.
- Captain's Cook first vessel HMS Endeavor was built in Whitby.
- Bram Stoker visited Whitby in 1890 and it is believed that the town and it's surrounding areas inspired him to create the setting for Dracula.
- Whitby is a charming fishing village surrounded by the spectacular back drop of the North Yorkshire Moors.
- A short distance away from Whitby is the the village of Goathland where the long running TV series Heartbeat was filmed.
- Scarborough is claimed to be founded by the Danes in the 10th century.
- The town is located on the North Sea coast line.
- Historically, in the North Riding of Yorkshire, Scarborough lies between 10 and 230 feet above sea level.

- Scarborough Castle from 1640 changed hands seven times between the Royalists and Parliamentarians during the English Civil War.
- In 1622 Mrs Thomasin Farrer discovered a stream of acidic water running from one of the cliffs to the south of the town.
- This gave birth to Scarborough Spa and Britain's first seaside resort.
- Scarborough at the time proved a popular getaway for the wealthy of London.
- The Scarborough - York Railway opened in 1845 which increased tourism in abundance.
- Bass - Burton Brewery, at the time, payed for 15 trains a year to send eight thousand brewery employees on their annual trip to the seaside
- York is a cathedral city in North Yorkshire.
- The city has Roman origins and has many historic buildings and structures.
- York Minster and York Castle are very popular with tourists.
- The city walls make a great back drop to this beautiful city
- York is home to the National Railway Museum.
- The River Ouse and Foss flow through the city.
- Music and the Arts are well represented in York, with great venues.
- Whitby ,Scarborough and York are well worth visiting when you are in North Yorkshire.
